Will _ALERT work for your purposes?

Subject: _ERRORMESSAGE
Hello,
I am using Lua 5.0 in a library and would like to capture error
messages. I used to do that with the function _ERRORMESSAGE in Lua
4.0, but it has been removed...
Is there any way to capture it other than capturing it when control
returns to C? I would like to show the user the error message myself.
The compat.lua only references _ERRORMESSAGE in a comment but there
is nothing else there about it.
Regards,
Mark
