Ok, how about this:
do {
lim -= singlestep(L);
if (g->gcstate == GCSpause)
break;
} while (lim > 0 || !g->incgc);
This is a repeat/until loop: it always executes once.
So a step is *always* done at least once,
no matter what g->incmode is.
It should be a while loop?
