Sorry, no. The Lua VM is merely a tool for implementing Lua. It *is*
bound to change in every new version of Lua. The format of precompiled
chunks also reflects this. However, it does contain the Lua version in
the header and so in principle it should be possible (though not easy)
to write tools that handle multiple versions. --lhf
