You're misunderstanding him. The point is that without any context,
the response
"Please choose a platform: ansi bsd generic linux macosx mingw posix
solaris"
to "make" is a non-sequitur. Better would be.
"You have not specified a valid platform. Please read the INSTALL file.
Syntax is:
make <platform>
Where platform is one of: ansi bsd generic linux macosx mingw posix
solaris"
