One of the things we needed to do was to be able to cancel in
in-progress operation. The only we found of doing that on VxWorks was to
terminate the task that was currently blocked on the operation! And
while that *should* work, of course, we were completely at the mercy of
the driver and library writers having put in all the appropriate locking
and cleanup code to be able to cope with such things...
