The guy who did the lua rocks project (sorry if I can't recall your
name just at the moment) wrote a coverage tool, luacov on luaforge,
that has to deal with comments of all sorts. You might be able to
hack up his code to remove the comments from the code. Renaming
locals and all that would be another problem but it might be a good
place to start.
