One reason might be the signing/certification hoops you need to go through
to run native code.

There's also the Blackberry, on which applications can only be in Java.

Why port lua to java in the first place, and not just run lua itself, 
why bridge using another language?

lua should run without much fuss on symbians like n95, especially with 
the posix libraries..
