Whoa, hold on a second, this isn't at all similar to emulating bugs in servers!
Introducing non-standard behaviour in order to get compatibility is
very, very different from what we are talking about.
If you can be **standard conformant** in two different ways, why not
conform in the way that allows maximum interoperability?
Its not like the ftp source use lower case for any particular reason,
other than the author liked the way it looked in the source code! It
was a perfectly good choice, until someone found it isn't a good
choice.
