It turns out that os.execute doesn't have the expected behaviour on
vxWorks.
The scripts are not being executed - although there was no indication of
that after running the command.
Has anyone had to do this? Any solution?

Well, you can always use the old standby:
os.execute('COMMAND > /tmp/1')
or even
f = io.popen ('COMMAND')
