I noticed recently when installing as a rock on a SuSE x86_64 system
that the compile breaks (I remember having to chase this
down for OS X as well):

splice.c:104,  SPLICE_F_MOVE undefined.

The word is that SPLICE_F_MOVE has been basically dropped from modern
Linux kernels??
