Sure, so in that case it's worth adding optional pkg-config (with
fallback) to autoconf.
That's actually a very good idea, because one could also disable it
(--without-pkg-config) for users who dislike it. (Some anathematize it
for the way it copes, or fails to, with multiple installations of the
same package.)
