I don't know much of anything about gobject yet and I don't understand the code but at
4.5K lines. I think even I could carry on development by myself(so of course you could
too) if the developer abandoned it.
I think this is a very strong argument in favour of adopting it.
For binding libraries, such count might no be significant.
For lqt, for example, most of the code is probably automatically generated: as long as you
are able to run the generator, the maintenance burden might be light.
I see lqt just reached the 0.9 stage, it should be quite stable now.
Of course, choice of GUI framework depends on general knowledge: if you know GTK+ or Qt,
the choice should be obvious; if you know neither, it depends on how difficult it can be
to learn one or the other, depending on quality of doc, amount of tutorials, etc.
Plus it can be a personal choice: I am not fan of GTK+ applications look on Windows,
although they have improved a lot, so I would rather choose lqt.
Another option is tekUI, not relying on a binding of a framework, but drawing itself its
widgets. One nice side is that lot of its code is pure Lua, so if potential
self-maintaining is one of your concern, it can be something to consider.
These projects evolve slowly, but they don't seem dead. They surely would welcome
contributions...
