I don't think you should be sorry. The GPL is a subtle beast and I
certainly have learned a few things.

BTW, this is why I go out of my way to find code distributed with a
more permissive licence. To distribute a _library_ under the full GPL
and not the LGPL is being a bit mean and ideological, IMHO.
