For instance on Mac OS X with Lua 5.1:

    git clone https://github.com/diegonehab/luasocket.git
    cd luasocket/src
    make PLAT=macosx LUAV=5.1
    make install-unix LUAV=5.1

Adapt the settings to your platform. All Unix platforms build
with Unix support by default, but you have to call install-unix
instead of install.
