I am a newbie, without expertise in script languages, but the concepts of Lua sounded cool. My first impression with lua-l was that the list owner was spamming me. What a shock! Luiz, lhf, expertly corrected my misapprehension, behind the scenes, and told me of the upcoming list-change.

Soon, the list-change effort became public, and my second important impression of Lua began: the selection & implementation of a new list-system contains complications & permutations, some technical but others human. Lately, I have anticipated the new twists & turns in the list-saga with each batch of mail.

I am sure that the spam-noise issue and the list-change effort are unwanted diversions for the primary players in the Lua project. They have 'better things to do', no doubt. While the lead personnel are the decision-makers, the Lua community and list-users have shown an interest & concern with the implementation of the new list. Perhaps a period of public hashing of list ideas and considerations could be helpful (tho I noticed that public input did not become noticeable until very (too) late in change-over...).

This message, then, is to note that the list-change is really quite important, that it is perhaps a bit more involved than anticipated, and that the Lua community itself can be and maybe should be (more) active participants in the change.

Subject: about the new list...

Unfortunately, there are some problems with the new list server...
So, for now, we will have to stay with the old list.

Sorry about that,
